Work Pre-appointment hearing: Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration (Pre-appointment hearing)
Government’s preferred candidate for the role of Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration

The Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration provides independent scrutiny of the UK’s border and immigration functions. They report annually to the Home Secretary and their reports are placed before Parliament.

A pre-appointment hearing is an opportunity for a select committee to scrutinise the quality of ministerial decision making over appointments. The Committee will assess the candidate’s suitability for appointment, including their knowledge, skills and independence. The Committee will then publish a short report on the proposed appointment in the days following the session.

Mr Tuckett is currently the Immigration Services Commissioner – the head of the Immigration Advice Authority – and has statutory regulatory, complaint handling and law enforcement responsibilities in respect of the giving of immigration advice and services in the UK. A biography for Mr Tuckett is available on Gov.uk.
