English Devolution plans examined by Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee
On Tuesday morning, the Housing, Communities and Local Government (HCLG) Committee will question local government witnesses including Tracey Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire Combined Authority, for a one-off evidence session on the Government’s English Devolution White Paper.
Meeting details
The cross-party group of MPs will ask questions around the Government’s plans for the reorganisation of local government and explore accountability concerns and risks to local identities.
The Committee is also likely to examine how authorities can successfully transition to unitary or combined authorities, whether further fiscal devolution powers could be handed over, and the challenges which councils may face in the process of unitarisation.
The MCHCLG Department’s English Devolution White Paper was published on 16 December 2024.
