Treasury Minister to give evidence to MPs on plans for HMRC
The Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, James Murray MP, appears in front of the Treasury Committee to answer questions on the government’s plans for HMRC.
Meeting details
Mr Murray is the first minister to chair the HMRC Board. He succeeds Dame Jayne-Anne Gadhia, a Lead Non-Executive Director, who had been in the position since 2020.
As Exchequer Secretary, Mr Murray is responsible for the administration of the tax department and oversees the implementation of all tax changes announced by the Treasury. He has previously confirmed his three strategic priorities for HMRC are: closing the tax gap, modernising and reforming, and improving customer service.
Members of the Committee are likely to ask Mr Murray how he intends to deliver those objectives and how the HMRC that he oversees will be different when compared to previous governments.
They may also choose to question the minister on how the tax department will contribute to the Chancellor’s primary ambition to grow the economy.
