At 10.30am on Tuesday 4 February, the Defence Committee will hold its first evidence session of its inquiry into the Armed Forces Covenant.
The inquiry examines the UK’s commitment to ensuring that members of the Armed Forces community are supported and treated fairly.
Meeting details
The session will explore how well the Covenant is working from the perspective of the groups who represent and support Service Personnel, and examine some of the issues reported with its implementation, such as a lack of awareness of the Covenant and inconsistent implementation across different parts of the UK.
The Committee will also ask participants to recommend ways the Covenant could be improved. The Government has announced plans to legislate to put the Covenant ‘fully into law’, and the inquiry’s findings will help to inform that process.
In the first panel, MPs will hear from Armed Forces charities, including the Director General at The Royal British Legion, Mark Atkinson. In the second panel, the Committee will hear from representatives of the Army, Navy and RAF Families Federations.
