Angela Rayner, MHCLG Secretary of State and Deputy Prime Minister, questioned by Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee
On Tuesday afternoon, the Housing, Communities and Local Government (HCLG) Committee will question the Rt Hon Angela Rayner, Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of State, Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
The evidence session will be the first HCLG Committee session with the Secretary of State in this Parliament.
Speaking ahead of the session, Florence Eshalomi, Chair of the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee, said: “The Secretary of State has a big policy agenda, not least with the commitment to deliver 1.5m new homes by the end of this Parliament and the Government’s devolution agenda.
“We look forward to questioning the Secretary of State on the Government’s housing and planning policy ambitions and on issues including local council finances and devolution.”
Meeting details
On 11 December, the HCLG Committee launched an inquiry on the funding and sustainability of local government finance, looking at whether the local government finance system in England is fit for purpose (see website news item).
The HCLG Committee also has two short inquiries underway, examining the topics of children in temporary accommodationand rough sleeping.
The Committee held an evidence session on 20 November with Matthew Pennycook MP, Minister of Housing and Planning, on the Government’s plans to deliver on the commitment of 1.5 million new homes by the end of this Parliament.
