The Office for Value for Money (OVfM), launched during the Autumn Budget, is a time-limited HM Treasury Unit, established to help Departments root out waste and inefficiency, deliver value for money and, help develop recommendations for systems reform.

The appointment of Mr Goldstone as Chair was seen as controversial by some, in part due to his previous involvement in projects with high overspends such as the London Olympics.

Given the OVfM’s remit to deliver value for money, MPs may choose to ask what learnings Mr Goldstone will bring to this role from past experiences – including in projects with high overspends such as the London Olympics.

The Committee may question how the OVfM could influence the forthcoming Spending Review and increase efficiency savings. MPs are likely to ask how the OVfM will make tangible improvements to value for money in the Government.
