Background

The Committee is exploring the scale-up scene and why the UK still struggles to turn innovative start-ups into successful scale-ups, and ensure their long-term expansion happens in the UK.

Possible areas for discussion

Possible areas for discussion with the first witness panel include:

  • The performance of the British Business Bank in supporting UK scale-ups, including supporting innovative tech companies to access capital, and
  • assessing whether existing programmes from the bank are keeping pace with technological change.

Possible areas for discussion with the second witness panel include:

  • The role that Innovate UK and AHRC play in helping innovative businesses grow,
  • whether they have the resources and expertise to support effectively scale-ups in the AI sector, and
  • the design of the second wave of the Creative Industries Cluster Programme.
