Children in Temporary Accommodation - Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee holds first evidence session
On Tuesday morning, the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee questions homelessness organisations, including Crisis and St Mungo’s, and local authority stakeholders, such as the District Councils Network and London Councils, for the first evidence session of its short inquiry on children in temporary accommodation.
Meeting details
The cross-party group of MPs will be examining issues regarding the experiences of children and families in temporary accommodation and consider solutions on how temporary housing could be improved
MPs are likely to ask questions around homelessness prevention, the quality of temporary accommodation, and the financial pressures on councils.
MPs are also expected to examine the placing of families in B&B accommodation, local authorities’ use of out-of-area placements, and the impact of temporary accommodation on children’s health and development.
The Committee is expected to wrap up this short inquiry with questions to a Government Minister in the New Year.
The HCLG’s Committee’s inquiry is focussing on these issues relating to England.
