Background

This session builds on the Committee’s previous scrutiny of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Bill. The Committee continues to take an interest in the delivery of the new legislation and the work of the regulator. This session examines ongoing issues around digital competition, the delivery of the new regime, and lessons from abroad.

Possible areas for discussion

Possible areas for discussion with witnesses include:

  • priorities and challenges for the Competition and Markets Authority in implementing the new regulatory regime;
  • reviewing the behaviour from tech platforms in response to regulation in other jurisdictions; and
  • the importance of accountability, and ensuring the new regime supports rather than stifles innovation in digital markets.
