The Treasury Committee will hold a pre-commencement hearing to scrutinise the appointment of Liz Oakes as a member of the Bank of England’s Financial Policy Committee (FPC).

Meeting details

At 10:15am: Oral evidence
Work Appointment of Liz Oakes to the Financial Policy Committee (Pre-appointment hearing)

The session will take place at 10:15 on Tuesday 21 May in the Grimond Room, Portcullis House.

In April, the Chancellor announced he had appointed Ms Oakes to the FPC for a term of three years. She is set to begin the role in June.

During the hearing, MPs will assess whether Ms Oakes has the required personal independence and appropriate professional competence for the role.

The FPC is responsible for maintaining the financial stability of the UK economy by identifying and removing risks to its resilience. Six of its members are Bank of England staff, including the Governor. Ms Oakes will be one of the four external members selected from outside the Bank for their experience and expertise in financial services.

The committee also includes the Chief Executive of the Financial Conduct Authority and one non-voting member from HM Treasury.

The Committee will produce a short report in the days following the session.
