UK and Scottish Government support for space sector under the microscope
The Scottish Affairs Committee holds the last session of its inquiry into Scotland’s space sector. In this session, MPs will ask the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the Scottish and UK Government’s for their views on a wide range of topics that have been explored throughout the inquiry.
Meeting details
The cross-party Committee questions the CAA on its work as the UK’s space regulator. MPs will examine its performance as regulator, licenses for space activities and how the UK’s space regulation compares to other countries.
The Committee then hears from civil servants from the Scottish Government’s New Market Clusters Unit. Questions will likely explore the Scottish Governments’ approach to supporting for the Scottish space sector, including its work to attract investment and help space companies grow.
In the final panel, MPs hear from the UK Government. This will include the UK Space Agency and Lord Cameron of Lochiel, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Scotland Office.
During this panel, discussions are likely to focus on how the UK Government supports the Scottish space sector, helps to grow its space companies and deals with skills shortages. The Committee will also discuss how the UK and Scottish Governments work together to support this rapidly developing industry in Scotland.
