Former Scotland Secretaries to be questioned ahead of sessions with Michael Gove and Nicola Sturgeon
Former Secretaries of State for Scotland, Alistair Carmichael MP and David Mundell MP, will appear in front of the Scottish Affairs Committee on Monday 22 April as part of the inquiry into intergovernmental relations.
Meeting details
The appearance of two former Scotland Secretaries will give MPs the opportunity to examine the UK Government’s perspective on the state of relations between the UK and Scottish Governments between 2013 and 2019.
MPs may choose to probe witnesses on how effectively the Governments worked collaboratively during periods of political tension, for example during the Independence Referendum and the United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union.
As the inquiry into intergovernmental relations gathers pace, the Committee can confirm Levelling Up Secretary and Minister for Intergovernmental Relations, Michael Gove MP, will give evidence to cross-party members in June. It comes as former First Minister Nicola Sturgeon is set to appear on Monday 29 April.
The inquiry, named Intergovernmental Relations: 25 Years since the Scotland Act, has already heard from a number of influential political voices including Lord David Cameron, Alex Salmond and Angus Robertson MSP.
