Work Appointment of Clare Lombardelli as Deputy Governor for Monetary Policy, Bank of England (Pre-appointment hearing)

The Chancellor announced the appointment in February. Ms Lombardelli will succeed Dr Ben Broadbent and is due to begin in the role on Monday 1 July 2024.

The new role will see her become a new member of the Monetary Policy Committee, which determines interest rates, as well as joining the Financial Policy Committee and the Court of the Bank of England.

The Bank has confirmed Ms Lombardelli will lead the implementation of any actions which result from Dr Ben Bernanke’s review into its forecasting process, with that report expected to be published in the coming weeks.

During the hearing, MPs will assess whether Ms Lombardelli has the required personal independence and appropriate professional competence for the role.

The Treasury Committee will make its views known in the days following the session.
