Transport Committee holds sessions on electric vehicles and on draft Rail Reform Bill with union chiefs

In this one-off session, the cross-party Committee will examine the health of the EV market, and how it was affected by the Government’s decision in September 2023 that the ban on petrol and diesel cars would be delayed from 2030 to 2035.

Expert witnesses in this session will also be asked about reports that the battery life (or range) of many EVs may be overestimated by the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP), particularly in colder conditions. There will also be questions about the accuracy of media reports that some EVs pose a greater fire-safety risk than petrol and diesel vehicles.
