Minister Andrea Leadsom to face MPs’ questions on the future of pharmacy

Minister Andrea Leadsom faces questions from MPs in the final evidence session of the pharmacy inquiry.

Questions are expected to focus on funding for community pharmacy given the government’s ambition to expand services and against evidence citing a real term cut of 30%.

Other concerns raised during the inquiry that are likely to be covered include the impact of medicine shortages on patients and pharmacists, support for ‘Pharmacy First’ and in particular the need for consultation rooms. Questions may cover safe staffing levels in hospital pharmacy, and across the sector, plans to deploy Independent Prescribers from 2026, workforce challenges and training.
