Committee to take evidence from the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology
The House of Lords Science and Technology Committee will hold an evidence session with the Rt Hon Michelle Donelan, the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology.
Meeting details
The session will focus on the work of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, which has just reached its first anniversary. Members will explore the update to the Science and Technology Framework and the coherence of the five critical technologies the Framework identifies; whether IP from the UK is being harvested and exploited by others; and DSIT’s ability to work with other departments to deliver science and technology progress across Government.
Possible question areas include:

- Government support of science and technology companies seeking to scale up in the UK
- The proposal to use public procurement as a way to support the pull-through of novel technologies
- Progress on cross-governmental work for skills in the UK
- Safeguards on the use of AI in Government and the suggestion of an AI watchdog
