Sir Alex Chisholm questioned on the work of the Cabinet Office

The Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee take evidence on the work of the Cabinet Office from its Permanent Secretary, Sir Alex Chisholm, as well as the Cabinet Office’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer.

The session sees the cross-party Committee scrutinise the Cabinet Office’s expenditure and administration, examining issues such as Civil Service pay, staff turnover and Cabinet Office spending.

Committee members enquire into the results of the 2023 Civil Service People Survey, as well as the progress of the ‘A Better Cabinet Office’ programme.

The evidence session also provides an opportunity for the Committee to explore Sir Alex’s reflections from his time at the Cabinet Office, ahead of his departure from his role.

The session also sees MPs question witnesses on the issue of Non-Executive Directors, following the publication of the Committee’s report and Lord Maude’s review into Civil Service governance and accountability.
