MPs to examine Scotland’s space satellite potential
The Scottish Affairs Committee will examine Scotland’s space satellite sector in an upcoming public session, as it continues to gather evidence for its inquiry on Scotland’s space industry.
Meeting details
In evidence to this inquiry, the Committee has heard that Scotland is seen as a leader in small satellite manufacturing and space data, with Glasgow making more satellites than anywhere else in Europe.
Satellite manufacturers will appear before the Committee to discuss their experience of operating in Scotland’s growing space industry, including why Scotland appealed as somewhere to start their business.
On the second panel, companies specialising in applications used by satellites – including earth observation and communications services – will likely be questioned on their experiences of ‘scaling up’ their businesses and how governments can help companies grow.
Witnesses’ views on the UK and Scottish Governments’ space strategies will be a likely topic for discussion. The Committee has so far heard criticism that both strategies lack detail, and this session will provide an opportunity to hear the perspective of smaller Scottish firms.
