Scottish Affairs Committee questions Angus Robertson on intergovernmental relations

Angus Robertson MSP, Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary, appears before Westminster’s Scottish Affairs Committee to discuss relations between the UK and Scottish Governments.

MPs on the Committee travel to Edinburgh to meet Mr Robertson, the Constitution, External Affairs and Culture Secretary, as they continue to gather evidence for their inquiry into intergovernmental relations.

Meeting details

At 10:00am: Oral evidence
Inquiry Intergovernmental relations: 25 years since the Scotland Act 1998
Cabinet Secretary for Constitution, External Affairs and Culture at Scottish Government
Deputy Director, Constitution and UK Relations at Scottish Government
Head of UK Frameworks/IMA Unit at Scottish Government

In written evidence to this inquiry, the Scottish Government told the Committee that formal intergovernmental processes alone “will not deliver the step change in attitude and behaviour from the UK Government that is needed if there is to be a genuine improvement in intergovernmental relations.”

The session will be an opportunity for the Committee to probe this view, with questions likely on the new intergovernmental relations framework, introduced in 2022, and whether the updated disputed resolution process is fit for purpose. The Scottish Government’s position on how the UK’s exit from the EU has impacted relations is also likely to come under examination, along with the UK Internal Market Act.
