WEC to question Ministers on Government support for women amid the rising cost of living
The Women and Equalities Committee (WEC) will question Ministers Maria Caulfield and Jo Churchill, on Government support and assistance strategies for women impacted by the rising cost of living as part of its inquiry into the subject.
Meeting details
The third evidence session of the inquiry will examine what the Government is doing to understand and respond to the disproportionate impact of the increase in the cost of living on women. Discussion topics will include the Department for Work and Pensions’ (DWP) Cost of Living Payments and its long-term approach to helping families on low incomes, the health consequences for women and children who are struggling with rising costs, plus the adequacy of Government measures to recognise and respond to domestic abuse.
WEC launched an inquiry in September 2023 to examine the impact of the rising cost of living on women as households continue to come under pressure. The inquiry is considering how the increase in the cost of living could exacerbate existing inequalities and what steps the Government and other stakeholders, including different sectors of the economy, could take in response.
