MPs are likely to raise questions with Healthwatch about patients’ views on Pharmacy First, a service that will enable pharmacists to supply some prescription-only medicines without the need to visit a GP.

On workforce, the committee is expected to question whether NHS plans to recruit more pharmacists and technicians are deliverable. Growing demand for pharmacy services means that the estimated number of education and training places will need to increase by up to 55% by 2033.

The inquiry is examining challenges facing the pharmacy sector in hospitals, the community and general practice.
