MENA counter-terrorism threats under the microscope

Today, at 14.30, the Foreign Affairs Committee will hold its third evidence session on ‘the UK’s international counter-terrorism policy’ inquiry. In the session, the Committee will consider threats in the Middle East and North Africa which impact the UK. The Committee will also consider the UK’s international counter-terrorism policy in response to these threats. The Committee will hear from expert witnesses including Edmund Fitton-Brown, former British diplomat and former Coordinator of the UN ISIL/al-Qaeda/Sanctions Monitoring Group and Dr Lina Khatib, Director of the SOAS Middle East Institute.

The panel will focus on the nature of the international terrorism threats in the MENA region and UK counter-terrorism efforts. This will include examining whether existing policies in the region are sufficient and the impact of policy papers such as the Integrated Review and the ‘UK-Middle East and North Africa development partnership.’
