Defence Committee to examine the future of combat air, including GCAP

On Wednesday 24 January, at 14.30, the Defence Committee will continue its inquiry into future aviation capabilities, hearing from BAE Systems, AERALIS, Spirit AeroSystems, the Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Unions and Unite the Union.

The first panel will explore the progress made on the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), which is currently working towards the “Tempest” aircraft. Questions are likely to cover the industrial relationship between partners in Italy and Japan, the potential for multi-year funding and expectations for final capability requirements.

Witnesses in the second panel are likely to be asked whether the Government is delivering on the promises in its Combat Air Strategy. In the final panel, Members are likely to examine the strengths and weaknesses of the aviation sector and workforce.
