Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee explores careers and education in the land-based sectors
The Committee holds its first evidence session in its inquiry into education and careers in land-based sectors.
MPs look at career pathways into the land-based sectors, how the sector can attract and retain workers, and what its future workforce might look like.
Meeting details
The Committee launched its inquiry in September to explore the relationship between education and the land-based industries, and the effectiveness of schools and higher education in embedding awareness of the sector.
Next week’s session asks the witnesses about the skills shortage in the land-based sectors and will hone in on mechanisms for better attracting young people into choosing a career in the sector, and what role the Government and industry organisations can play in promoting the sector.
MPs also consider the accessibility of the land-based sectors for those seeking a career change later in life, as well as what can be done to facilitate new entrants from non-rural backgrounds, into the industry.
