Committee questions Secretary of State Michelle Donelan on governing Artificial Intelligence and the wider performance of DSIT
In a two part evidence hearing the Committee questions the Secretary of State and Permanent Secretary at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology on the UK’s approach to fostering and regulating the development of artificial intelligence, following its summer report on the 12 challenges of AI that Government must answer and the subsequent international summit at Bletchley Park.
With the US and EU forging ahead in creating the world’s first regulatory frameworks but no sign of a UK bill in the King’s Speech, where next for the UK in the race to safely and securely maximise the benefits of AI?
Meeting details
From around 10.15am questioning will move on to the wider priorities, spending and performance of the Department, including:
- measures and progress toward the Government’s stated aim of making the UK a global ‘science superpower’
- regulatory adaptation to advances in bio-engineering and progress in commercialising quantum technologies
- how UK migration policy will affect our ability to attract and retain international talent in the science sector
- the European Horizon, Copernicus and Euratom programmes
- how DSIT is tackling recognised delivery issues in its essential digital infrastructure projects
