A flexible grid for the future inquiry: ESNZ Committee holds session on planning system
The Energy Security and Net Zero Committee holds a session to consider how the planning system could be reformed to support the delivery of renewable energy generation and build support for such projects in the community.
The session is part of the Committee’s inquiry examining what needs to be done to ensure the UK has the infrastructure it needs to deliver grid capacity for the future and support the development of renewable energy sources.
Meeting details
The first panel considers potential reforms to national planning policy and related statutory frameworks, including the development consent regime for Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects, the National Planning Policy Framework, and community benefits.
The second panel focuses on issues around community engagement, environmental assessment and how the strategic planning process should recognise other demands on the use of the land.
