Committee questions Sports Minister on the Government’s strategy for Women’s Sport
The Culture, Media and Sport Committee will hold the final evidence session of its inquiry into Women’s Sport.
The inquiry is looking into issues around the growth of women’s football, the challenges other women’s sporting organisations face regarding audiences and revenue, and how to achieve parity with men’s sport.
Meeting details
In the first panel, the cross-party Committee will examine the work of Sport England, the arm’s-length Government body responsible for growing grassroots sport and promoting physical activity. In the same panel, MPs will also question the Chief Executive of Women in Sport on changes to policy around women’s sport.
MPs will then hear from the Sports Minister and senior DCMS officials on the Government’s strategy on women’s sport. Two key strands of the Government’s women’s sport policies are the ‘Get Active’ sports strategy, which aims to get 1.25 million more women active by 2035, and its full acceptance of the recommendations put forward by the independent review into women’s football to enhance the standards of the women's game in England.
Questions may focus on the Government’s strategy and priorities for women’s sport, including its plans to increase participation, improve school provisions of PE, and issues around investment. The professionalisation of elite sport, sports talent pathway and steps to root out sexism could also be discussed.
