MPs to ask, is the UK’s infrastructure strategy working?
The Treasury Committee will hold a one-off session examining the UK’s strategy for delivering national infrastructure projects at 9.30 am on Tuesday 14 November.
It has been widely acknowledged that infrastructure projects in the UK have faced significant delays and changing timescales, planning barriers and concerns around available investment.

Likely areas of questioning
The cross-party Committee will ask officials from the National Infrastructure Commission (NIC) and the Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA) for their views on how infrastructure strategy has been developed and implemented in the UK. This could include questions on the effects of recent policy decisions in relation to specific projects such as HS2 and Low Traffic Neighbourhoods.
Questions could also be asked about the decarbonisation of heating in the UK, including the use of heat pumps. MPs are also likely to examine requirements to modify transport infrastructure in order to meet net zero, focusing on the deployment of electric vehicles and climate resilience in the UK.
Members may seek views on the NIC's recommendations on public and private investment, and how planning reform is needed to deliver at pace and encourage investment. The independence and accountability of the IPA may also to be discussed.
