Is AI the future of diplomacy? Experts to give evidence

The first panel will focus on the potential role of AI tools in improving the work of foreign ministries like the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). MPs may ask how these tools can contribute to complex negotiations, horizon scanning and crisis management, and whether AI might be used in multilateral institutions like the United Nations or World Trade Organisation.

The second panel is likely to explore the prospects for effective global regulation of AI, ahead of an upcoming summit on AI Safety in Bletchley Park on 1-2 November 2023. MPs may ask whether global regulation is feasible, or even desirable, in an increasing adversarial international environment, and what role the UK might play in setting global standards.
