Women and Equalities Committee questions medical bodies on diagnosis, treatment and awareness of women’s reproductive health
During the session, the cross-party Committee of MPs will hear evidence around treatment options, the adequacy of medical professionals’ training in this area and whether there is sufficient research being carried out into women’s reproductive healthcare. The first panel will include the charity Wellbeing of Women, plus This Independent Life and the Menstrual Health Coalition.
In the second panel discussion, MPs on the Committee will take evidence from medical bodies in relation to the accuracy and timeliness of diagnosis, the barriers to treating such conditions and policies around pain experienced by women seeking help.
Meeting details
The Women and Equalities Committee launched an inquiry on women’s reproductive health in July to understand the challenges women face during diagnosis and treatment of gynecological and urogynecological conditions including, but not limited to, adenomyosis, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).
This second oral evidence session follows compelling testimonies from broadcaster and journalist Naga Munchetty, plus broadcaster and TV personality Vicky Pattison about their experiences of living with menstrual and gynaecological health conditions and the issues they faced in securing effective diagnosis and treatment.
