Relationship between UK and Scottish Governments set to be examined by Scottish Affairs Committee
MPs on the cross-party Scottish Affairs Committee questions former senior politicians and officials on the state of UK-Scotland intergovernmental relations in an upcoming public hearing
Meeting details
Twenty-five years after the passing of the Scotland Act 1998, the session is an opportunity for MPs to hear the views of those who were central to the creation and delivery of the Scottish devolution settlement.
With combined experience spanning decades, a panel of former ministers will likely face questions on how relations between Westminster and Holyrood have evolved since the Scotland Act. MPs will assess the current political dynamic and whether it reflects the aspirations of politicians in 1998.
This will be followed by a separate panel of former senior civil servants. Committee members are likely to ask witnesses whether current attitudes towards intergovernmental relations allow the two Governments to work together effectively to resolve policy differences, including over the Deposit Return Scheme and the recent use of a Section 35 order.
