Reducing the harm from illegal drugs: PAC hears from expert witnesses

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) holds the first of two evidence sessions on reducing the harm from illegal drugs at 10am on Thursday 30 November.

Meeting details

At 10:00am: Oral evidence
Inquiry Reducing the harm from illegal drugs
Independent Advisor at Combating Drugs
CEO at The Forward Trust
Addictions Lead at The Association of Directors of Public Health (ADPH), Vice-President at The Association of Directors of Public Health (ADPH), and Director of Public Health at Gateshead Council

The session will hear from an expert panel of witnesses including Professor Dame Carol Black, whose independent review of drugs recommended the creation of the cross-government Joint Combatting Drugs Unit (JCDU).

The Committee’s inquiry follows its May 2023 report on alcohol treatment services, and will examine progress to date in implementing the Government’s 10-year plan to reduce the harm caused by illegal drugs, and the work of the JCDU.

A second evidence session will then follow on Monday 4 December with senior officials at the Home Office and the Department of Health and Social Care.
