What are the challenges for women and girls’ grassroots sport? CMS Committee to explore
The Committee questions experts on women and girls’ grassroots sport in the third evidence session of its inquiry into Women’s Sport.
Meeting details
The first panel features representatives of cross-cutting bodies and the Local Government Association. MPs questioning could focus on the impact of the increasing profile of women’s sport across the country, and whether or not this popularity and visibility has been reflected in grassroots sport. Questions may also be asked about the provision of facilities for grassroots women’s sport, funding and allocation at this level and the systematic barriers to sport participation.
The second panel will be an opportunity for the Committee to question national governing bodies and the leader of a local, volunteer-led girl’s football club in Acton, London. Questions will focus on the current landscape of grassroots participation, their work to promote sports to women and girls, and how they can develop a player’s talent. Class-barriers to participation, sexism, and misogyny within sport are also likely to be discussed.
