Experts to be questioned on how well Whitehall understands devolution
On Tuesday, the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee holds its first evidence session as part of the Committee’s inquiry into Devolution Capability in Whitehall, exploring how well Ministers and civil servants understand the different devolution arrangements in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
The Committee hears from senior civil servants with extensive academic research experience on the civil service and devolution.
Meeting details
Over twenty-five years on from the creation of the devolved administrations, MPs are likely to examine the effects of devolution on Whitehall considerations and whether more should be done to ensure Ministers and civil servants consider devolution as part of the policy-making process.
Over the course of the inquiry, the Committee will also be seeking the views of the devolved administrations, to consider approaches to capability building on devolution in their own administrations, and whether the UK can learn from the approaches taken in other countries to devolved administrations.
