Committee quizzes academics on the future of women’s sport
In the second session of the CMS Committee’s inquiry into women’s sport, MPs hear from academics specialising in the area. The cross-party Committee have the opportunity to explore research into women’s sport, including the financial, social, governance and audience aspects of the sector.
This session comes after a summer full of high-profile women’s sport. Most notably, England’s World Cup final match was watched by more than 14 million people in the UK - the most watched Women’s World Cup final ever. The Committee analyse the widespread policy implications which come from the growth of women’s sport and current academic insight into these areas.
Meeting details
MPs are likely to ask about current research into the needs of women’s football as it grows, and the lessons that the growth of women’s football can teach other women’s sports. They may also discuss research into audience demographics, the financial growth of women’s sport, sexism and misogyny players face and the future of women’s sport governance. There could be questions about issues raised by the recent report into inequity in cricket and its relevance across sport.
