Energy Security and Net Zero Committee questions North Sea Transition Authority and UK Atomic Energy Authority
In its first public meeting since it was established, the Energy Security and Net Zero Committee will question officials from the North Sea Transition Authority and UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA).
Meeting details
The session is part of the Committee’s scrutiny of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and its arms-length bodies.
The North Sea Transition Authority regulates the oil, gas and carbon storage industries and is tasked with maximising the potential of the UK’s Continental Shelf as an energy resource. Questions could focus on how it is meeting its three priorities: boosting UK energy security by helping the country produce energy from its own resources; reducing emissions from the production of that energy; and accelerating the transition to net zero.
UKAEA’s mission is to lead the development of sustainable fusion energy and maximise the scientific and economic benefit. Officials could be asked about how it is delivering on its strategic goals, which include enabling partners to operate commercial fusion plants, creating clusters to accelerate innovation and developing the people needed to deliver fusion energy.
