Professor Sir Chris Whitty among expert witnesses to give evidence to MPs on air quality
Chief Medical Officer for England Professor Sir Chris Whitty KCB will be appearing before the Environmental Audit Committee as MPs continue gathering evidence on outdoor and indoor air quality targets.
Meeting details
Professor Whitty will be appearing on the first panel, speaking about the findings from his most recent Chief Medical Officer annual report, which focused on air pollution. Members may wish to discuss which pollutants will require the most attention in the years ahead and whether the public is adequately aware of the harms of air pollution. They are likely to discuss specific current causes of poor air quality, such as solid fuel burning and transport emissions.
The second panel will comprise from Larissa Lockwood, Director for Clean Air at Global Action Plan and Professor Nicola Carslaw, Professor in Indoor Air Chemistry at the University of York, and Dr Tom Woolley, Architect and Environmental consultant with Rachel Bevan Architects and Chair of the UK Clean Air Steering Committee. This panel is likely to focus on indoor air quality issues, examining in particular measures to improve air quality in existing buildings and ways to improve the evidence base. They will discuss the impacts on air quality of substances used in various household tasks, such as cleaning agents.
