Science, Innovation and Technology Committee questions UK Government Chief Scientific Adviser

SITC will hold its first evidence hearing with the UK Government Chief Scientific Adviser, Professor Dame Angela McLean, appointed in February to replace Sir Patrick Vallance.

The Committee will question the Government Chief Scientific Adviser on her priorities and how she intends to continue Sir Patrick’s legacy, including his stated wish to have devoted more time to climate change and Net Zero; on the UK’s research and development framework and the role of scientific advice in Government, and on a range of specific issues including:

  • artificial intelligence
  • emerging diseases
  • diversity and inclusion in science, technology, engineering and mathematics

Due to the ongoing public inquiry there will not be detailed questions on the covid-19 pandemic.
