Environmental regulations inquiry: Government Ministers to give evidence
On Tuesday 11 July the Built Environment Committee holds its final evidence session with Ministers from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) and Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) on its inquiry on the impact of environmental regulations on development.
Meeting details
Possible questions include:
- The Government has committed to ambitious environmental targets including ’30 by 30’ and reducing excess nutrient pollution by 50 per cent. Will you achieve these by 2030?
- What is the timetable for implementing the Integrated Plan for Water and, whilst it is developed, is house building paying the price for an unaddressed agricultural and wastewater problem?
- SMEs are a vital part of the house building sector. How are you ensuring that new environmental regulations do not cause a further reduction in this sector?
- Is there enough expertise throughout the planning system to address ecological concerns and unlock development?
- The Government has recently introduced Local Nature Recovery Strategies as an additional plan local authorities must produce. Are these plans coherent and is too much being asked of the planning system by a range of departments?
