The session aims to understand the UK Government’s approach to Sudan prior to the conflict and seek an update on the current challenges in Sudan.

It falls on the United Nations’ World Refugee Day which celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict. The Committee will hear from experts who have worked to address human rights issues in Sudan, prevent identity-based violence and support Sudanese asylum seekers and refugees. This will include hearing from Mohammed Hassan al-Ta’ishi, former Member of the Sovereignty Council of Sudan 2019-2021 (collective Head of State of Sudan).
