Background

The session forms part a short inquiry by the Committee looking in detail at the Bill and whether it is likely to meet the Government’s objectives to improve consumer protection, regulate digital markets, and strengthen competition enforcement powers.

Possible questions

Possible lines of questioning to the first witness panel include:

  • What is your view on the state of competition in digital markets? What harms do businesses and consumers face from a lack of competition?
  • What specific changes would you recommend making to the Bill?
  • Are there any aspects of the Bill you would not want to see changed?

Possible lines of questioning to the second witness panel include:

  • Do you support the Bill and the underlying premise that insufficient competition in digital markets is holding back innovation and hampering opportunities for new market entrants?
  • Do you have concerns about the judicial review standard? If so, why?
  • What other priorities and concerns do you have for the legislation?
