Treasury Committee hears from Treasury Ministers on tax reliefs and venture capital

Last month, the Committee heard that over 1,000 tax reliefs are currently in operation. MPs will explore the current tax reliefs system, including simplification of the system, abuse of tax reliefs and what unintended consequences tax reliefs can create in the economy.

Meeting details

At 2:15pm: Oral evidence
Inquiries Tax Reliefs, and The venture capital market
Economic Secretary at HM Treasury

Questions could also focus on the costs of these reliefs, Government accountability, and gaps in HMRC’s data.

The cross-party Committee also questions the ministers as part of its inquiry into the venture capital market. MPs will likely investigate tax reliefs aimed at venture capital, how to enhance diversity and regional imbalances in the venture capital market, and the challenges businesses face in accessing scale-up capital.
