How resilient is our food system in the face of climate change? Leading academics and sector experts including environmentalist George Monbiot to be quizzed
The Environmental Audit Committee continues taking evidence on its inquiry into Environmental change and food security.
Across two panels, MPs will be exploring whether the national food system is resilient enough to cope with the growing threat of a warming climate and biodiversity decline.
Meeting details
The first panel will hear from George Monbiot, environmentalist and author of ‘Regenesis: Feeding the world without devouring the planet’, and Professor James Lowenberg-DeBoer of Harper Adams University, who specialises in agri-tech economics.
The Committee will then hear from the Country Land and Business Association, from vertical farming company Harvest London and from Dr Jill Edmondson of the University of Sheffield whose research examines the potential contribution of urban horticulture to local and national food security.
Issues that are likely to be covered include:
- The resilience of the UK’s and the global food system;

- The impact of water quality on meat and dairy farming;
- The Government’s upcoming land use framework.
