UK Government to face scrutiny on Scotland’s recovery after Covid-19

The Scottish Affairs Committee will continue to examine Scotland’s recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic with UK Government Scotland Office Minister, Lord Offord of Garvel, on Tuesday 11 July at 3pm.

Questions for the Minister will likely focus on inflation’s impact on the cost of living, the UK Government’s spending during the pandemic and post-pandemic recovery.

The Committee launched its inquiry to follow-up on earlier scrutiny work in this area. In October 2020 the Committee published a report on coronavirus and Scotland, which noted the “devastating impact” of the pandemic on Scotland’s key sectors.

The report highlighted how the shortage of key workers aggravated the situation and called for governments to learn from the experience of Covid-19, to ensure better preparation for future pandemics.
