Has Britain missed the boat on vehicle battery production? Industry reps to give evidence to Committee
Key figures in the car and vehicle battery industry, including former Aston Martin and current InoBat chief Dr Andy Palmer, gives evidence to the Business and Trade Committee on the UK’s vehicle battery making capacity and potential.
Meeting details
The session comes in the wake of warnings from car firms that impending changes to rules of origin for batteries when trading with the EU could jeopardise UK car production. The new rules would further restrict the proportion of batteries allowed to be produced outside of the UK and the EU.
Vauxhall-owner Stellantis, whose written evidence to the Committee sparked recent media coverage, had been invited to attend the session. It has now been decided that the Committee will seek alternative ways of hearing from Stellantis and other car manufacturers.
Evidence given at this session will contribute to the Committee’s inquiry into batteries for electric vehicles.
