MPs to question Anne-Marie Trevelyan on critical minerals progress
On Tuesday 13 June, at 14.15, the Foreign Affairs Committee will hold an evidence session as part of its inquiry into Critical Minerals. Across three panels, the Committee will explore the UK’s approach to critical minerals and how it can develop international partnerships to protect the UK economy.
Meeting details
While essential to the UK’s economy and national security, critical mineral supply chains are vulnerable to disruption and are currently dominated by overseas sources. China is particularly dominant in both mining and mid-stream processing of critical minerals.
In the first panel, Members will question experts on how the UK can contribute to upholding international standards on mining and supply chains. In the second panel, the Committee will consider the possibility of a rapid expansion in global mining driving illicit activity, and how this might be exploited by organised crime groups and private military companies.
In the third panel, Members will question Anne-Marie Trevelyan, Minister of State for the Indo-Pacific, on the UK’s Critical Minerals Strategy. The Committee is likely to explore how the strategy is being implemented, and to consider the Government’s progress towards building both bilateral and multilateral partnerships on critical minerals.
