Scotland Secretary Alister Jack, Foreign Office and Trade Ministers face questions on promoting Scotland internationally

Alister Jack MP, Secretary of State for Scotland, will appear before the Scottish Affairs Committee to discuss the UK Government’s role in promoting Scotland internationally at 3pm on Monday 12 June.

Meeting details

At 3:00pm: Oral evidence
Inquiry Promoting Scotland Internationally
Secretary of State for Scotland at Scotland Office
Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at Scotland Office, and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Minister for Exports) at Department for Business and Trade
Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Americas and Caribbean) at Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office

Joining the Scotland Secretary will be junior ministers, Lord Offord of Garvel from the Department for Business and Trade and David Rutley MP from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

In the final session of its inquiry, the Committee will focus on the UK Government’s strategy for promoting Scotland on the international stage and the role of the Scotland Office in coordinating this work.

MPs will examine how the UK Government promotes Scottish exports and investment in Scotland.

The UK Government’s 2021 Integrated Review described the UK as a “soft power superpower”. Questions are likely on how the UK Government can best use Scotland’s cultural and ‘soft power’ assets to boost the country’s profile abroad.

Topics on the agenda include:

  • How well the UK and Scottish Governments work together to promote Scotland abroad;
  • Scotland’s international brand; and
  • Plans to engage with Scottish diaspora.
