Treasury Committee to question officials responsible for valuing property linked to cost of council tax and business rates

The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) provides property and asset valuations for the Government, which form the basis of council tax bands and business rates.

Council tax bands are based on the 1991 value of property in England. Business rates for the next three years will be based on the value of business property on 1 April 2021.

The cross-party Committee of MPs will examine how the VOA calculates the value of homes and how it assesses whether business rates should fall or rise.
