Music industry representatives questioned by MPs on misogyny in music
Music industry representatives questioned on actions to tackle misogyny in music in the third session of the Women and Equalities Committee’s inquiry, part of the Committee’s umbrella inquiry into preventing violence against women and girls.

MPs hears from the heads of the Independent Society of Musicians, UK Music, and the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), the UK record label association that also administers the BRIT awards. Questions will likely focus on the support available to women in music and how the Government and industry can eliminate misogyny from the sector.
In light of this year’s BRIT awards, run by BPI, where only 34% of the artists nominated were women, MPs will also discuss the lack of women signed to record labels.
The interim CEO of the Creative Industries Independent Standards Authority (CIISA) will also be questioned on how the organisation, currently under development, proposes to combat bullying and harassment across the creative industries including in music.
