Chancellor of the Exchequer to give oral evidence to the Economic Affairs Committee
At 3pm on Tuesday 21 March the Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP, Chancellor of the Exchequer, will appear before the House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee in his first annual session with the committee.
Questions the committee is likely to ask include:
- Discussing the weak outlook of growth and any plans to mitigate the tax burden on households and businesses;
- Assessing plans for a cash-terms freeze after 2025 for public spending and the impact of the health and social care budget, as well as the schools’ budget;
- Discussing the Government’s short-term and long-term debt ratio;
- Energy support for businesses this coming winter, beyond the current Energy Bills Discount Scheme;
- The impact of the changes in pensions savings and the increase in support for childcare costs to encourage a growth in the labour workforce;
- The UK’s labour supply, and as it relates to immigration;
- The expanding monetary policy and financial policy remit of the Bank of England;
- The relaxation of ring-fencing rules after the Silicon-Valley Bank-HSBC deal
